The Young Dentist Program has been designed by the Crown Council to help young dentists jumpstart their cosmetic training, case presentation and team culture building skills. If you are 1-5 years out of dental school or know a dentist who is, they are invited and encouraged to be part.

The first step is filling out the application. There is room for 50 young dentists each year. Applications are accepted on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Applications for the program must be submitted on or before November 31 each year.

The cost to participate is a one time fee of $2200 or 12 payments of $199. After your Young Dentist Program concludes you are invited to be part of the Crown Council as a member for $98 per month.

You are responsible for your own air travel, hotel and food when you travel to Salt Lake City for the Preparation and the Seating weekends. The Crown Council will cover the costs of transportation, hotel and food for the patient. The Laboratory restoration is gift from Utah Valley Dental Lab.

You are also responsible for your own air travel and hotel when attending the Crown Council Annual Event.

The Young Dentist Program includes three mentored events with Dr. Hornbrook, UVDL, and other prominent industry leaders. The first event is held in conjunction with the Crown Council’s Annual Event, and the other two will be scheduled during the summer.

Included in the fee is admission to the Crown Council’s Annual Event. For 6 hours during the Annual Event, the Young Dentist will learn with Dr. Hornbrook: smile design, occlusion, prep design, cementation and materials related to each young dentists case that can be submitted before we gather.

The Young Dentist Program includes 16 hours of Practice Management CE and 32 hours of Clinical CE.

The patient recipient of the Charitable Smile Makeover Case will be selected during the January Crown Council Annual Event. Even if your own patient is not selected, you will have received guidance, direction and invaluable education about materials, treatment planning and case acceptance from some of dentistry’s top mentors.

Dr. David Hornbrook is a gifted clinician and product researcher turned mentor. Through education, Dr. Hornbrook guides participants of his instructive events to the realization that they, too, possess the ability to practice aesthetic dentistry at the very highest level.

He is one of dentistry’s most famous faces and one of the pioneers of live-patient, hands-on clinical education, as the founder and past director of Pac-live and the Hornbrook Group. He has been a guest faculty member of the post-graduate programs in Cosmetic Dentistry at Baylor, Tufts, SUNY at Buffalo, UMKC, and the UCLA Center of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Dr. Hornbrook lectures internationally on all facets of aesthetic and restorative dentistry and has published articles in all of the leading dental journals. A prolific researcher and materials enthusiast, he consults with numerous manufacturers on product development and refinement. Dr. Hornbrook’s warm and engaging style earns him the highest possible marks from participants and meeting sponsors.

Crown Council was created in response to a request from some of the most successful dentists in the world who wanted to create a community where they can focus daily on creating a Culture of Success in their practice. A place where they can leverage the most important asset that YOU have in your practice which is your TEAM. As a Crown Council member you not only have access to all of the Crown Council’s educational resources but you also have access to the collective knowledge and insight of over 1,000 practices who, with you, are endeavoring to create a culture of success.

Since tissue health plays such a vital role with both impression taking and control of hemostasis during cementation, the patient’s gingival health should be as close to ideal as possible. Your patient must have good periodontal health and it will be your responsibility to ensure this is the case.

They must be able to physically withstand the rigors of having 4-5 hours of “dental chair” time each day of treatment, and be willing to travel to Salt Lake City if they are the chosen candidate. Those patients requiring sedation or other relaxation medications may be not suited for this experience. There will be no nitrous oxide available and the use of oral sedatives is not recommended.

If any of the teeth as part of the smile design have been endodontically treated, ensure that the treatment is sound. If need be, retreatment may be necessary if the long term prognosis of previously endodontically treated teeth is questionable. The patient can present with a single implant as a tooth to be restored during the smile design, but it must be fully integrated and uncovered at the time of treatment.

It is preferable that the patient have posterior teeth. Although a full compliment of teeth is not mandatory for consideration, it will provide a better learning experience. If a patient presents with the need for a removable posterior appliance, there is a possibility that we can provide a long term, non-metal removable appliance as part of the treatment plan.

The Annual Event was created in 1996 when the original 400 members of the Crown Council met in Kerrville, TX. What started as a simple gathering of like-minded professionals has turned into dentistry’s finest non-clinical dental program!

Held early in the year and designed to be a significant team experience, the Annual Event provides education, motivation and skill training that empowers dental teams with the knowledge of how to create a culture in their practice that will bring them financial and personal success.

The other goal is to provide a beautiful new smile to a very special individual, and in the Crown Council’s tradition of doing good in the community; someone who otherwise could not afford the means to do so without your help. (We call this program Save-a-Smile / Save-a-Life.)

Considering that this is only a two weekend experience, case selection becomes a very important factor. The type of case we would like you to consider can, however, cover a wide range of possibilities.
